Yup, despite the ultra-moisturizing feel and the fact that it’s listed as low-protein on the Curl Junkie website, my hair felt a bit rough and was noticeably frizzy yesterday. I thought it may be due to having only a little bit of fsg left to use but I don’t think the mop top or cj smoothing gellie have ever made my hair feel rough and dry. It’s a shame since I was pretty pleased with the results the day before yesterday. However, I don’t plan on writing the CJ theory conditioner off. No, if anything, I’ll just rotate it with a protein-free conditioner. Maybe I’ll even give their curl assurance conditioner a shot despite the amodimethicone.

Rather than tempt the hair gods today by trying to rule out the protein in cj theory, I co-poo’d with alaffia and aloeba (need to use it up somehow!), rinsed out kbb milk, scrunched in about a nickel’s worth of kbb super silky and topped it all off with homemade fsg and two dimes of moptop after plopping. I was suprised by the consistency of the super silky – it seemed almost creamier than the nectar and it definitely lingered on my hands after scrunching it in. Comparing the ingredients of the nectar (Purified Water, Grapeseed Oil, Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Wax, Panthenol, Yucca Extract, Horsetail Extract, Nettle Extract, Melissa Extract, Essential and/or Fragrance Oil, Vitamin E and Natural Enzymes) vs super silky (Purified Water, Aloe Vera Juice, Vegetable Wax, Coconut Oil, Arnica Extract, Jojoba Oil, Panthenol, Organic Rosemary Hydrosol & Vitamin E)  there are heavier oils in the latter which may account for the heavier feel and creamier texture.

I was less than a little enthused after scrunching in the ss, fsg and mop top so imagine my amazement when I SOTC to get nice, airy, defined, boosted, waves! Waves that are tighter than they are in my “About” picture! Yay!

I’m really pleased with homemade fsg. I made a new batch last night and ended up with about 28 oz. However, it’s always fun to tinker with products so after reading this thread on NC.com, I ordered some seamollient to try adding to my fsg.

My hair these days have been a bit of a hit and miss. I’m slowly but surely working my way through my kathymack samples. So far, my hair is liking the CJ line: curl theory conditioner, curl assurance leave in, and (surprisingly) the aloe fix gel. The smoothing gellie is still something I’m trying to figure out. It seems more like a cream/leave in/curl enhancer as opposed to something that should be giving light hold. Unfortnately, I’ll have to use both the gellie and the aloe gel with a harder holding gel since neither of the two provide enough hold for my waves. Today I cowashed, rinsed out curl theory, scrunched in a dime’s worth of curl assurance leave in, three dimes of the smoothing gellie, and three nickel’s of the aloe gel. I was amazed by the waves I was seeing in the shower before and after srunching out the water. However, my amazement turned to a bit of disappointment once my hair was dry; there was a good amount of frizz, and no definition or boosting…but my hair felt great.

And now for my blackberry updates…

May 18th: co-poo with alaffia and vo5, aloeba rinse out, homemade fsg with 5 nickels of cj aloe fix – decent hair day. Good hold from the cj but some frizz. Skinnier clumps but decent wave definition

May 19th: cowash, kbb milk rinseout, fsg & cj aloe fix – good clumping and definition, medium hold with minor crunch, but slight frizz after 2 hours.

May 20th: cowash, hoity toity red apple scented conditioner, fsg + cj aloe + nexus phyto organics emphasis gel – good clumping, definition and waves up to the crown; more crunch, but skinnier waves

May  21st: alaffia wash, kbb milk rinseout, fsg & nexxus phyto organics emphasis gel – good clumping, definition, crunch, and hold but slight frizz.

May 22nd: cowash, kbb milk rinseout, mop top & fsg – good definition and boosting. Good amount of crunch but skinnier clumps. No frizz to deal with so a good hair day overall.

My experiments to date have led me to the following conclusions: my hair doesn’t like aloeba or mostly aloe gels (works better with a stronger gel mixed in).

Thank god for my natural hair care samples from kathymack. My hair was able to return to its normal state on Tuesday after a cowash, conditioning, and natural styling products. On Tuesday I cowashed with VO5 and conditioned with aloeba. My styling combo for the day was Ohm’s sweet hair pudding followed by Ohm aloe gel with a dab of BRHG to up the hold. I had tried the aloe gel on its own on Monday and while it did have some slight crunch, I had to be really generous. Despite the massive amount of gel (which didn’t feel like much in my hair), the hold diminished by 10 am and the frizz started creeping in. By 1 pm, my hair was up. Tuesday’s hair was much better despite the frizz and somewhat elongated crown area.

Yesterday’s hair was even better with an alaffia shampoo, aloeba rinse out, komaza coconut hair pudding  and aussie sun touched gel mixed with some brhg for hold. I had nice waves but by the end of the day, again, the frizz crept in. I attribute it to the aussie gel as BRHG can result in helmet hair if used bigger quantities.

Today’s hair is a result of yet another alaffia shampoo, ACV rinse, hoity toity sheer satin conditioner in cotton candy (yum!), afrodetangler, and ohm aloe gel mixed with brhg. I’ll see how the combo holds up with the warm day we’re expecting!

Creative title. Yes, I’ve been pretty bad with the updates but there’s a bit of a lull at work now so I thought to update.

Again, there aren’t any pictures and my descriptions are brief but I just haven’t found the time.

Two weeks ago I decided that AOHR was too heavy for the mild temps we’ve been having here in SoCal so I broke open my bottle of devacare one c. The texture is nice and creamy and it smells (to me) like orangesicles. In the shower, I was surprised that small amounts help detangle like a dream and provide the right amount of moisture for me upon rinsing out. That being said, I probably won’t repurchase as I’m none too fond of DevaCurl’s practices as evidenced in Jillipoo’s blog and the NC.com forums nor am I fond of the brushing off  Miss Massey gave. I would think it extremely unprofessional, if not illegal by FDA standards, to mislabel products just to save some cash/trees by printing new ones. Not only that, but if your products and philosophy helped to “revolutionize” the curly hair industry, wouldn’t you think it incumbent upon you to ensure that you aren’t misleading nor alienating your customers?

The past few days I’ve been dealing with less than stellar hair due to a run in with a GOD AWFUL gel by the name of got2b spiked up. Not only does it smell like embalming fluid but its ingredients probably match: Aqua Water , VP/VA Copolymer , Glycerin , PVP , Carbomer , Oleth-20 , Aminomethyl Propanol , Panthenol , Benzophenone-4 , Disodiium EDTA , DMDM Hydantoin , Parfum Fragrance , Butylphenyl Methylpropional , Linalool , Hexyl Cinnamal , CI 42090 Blue 1. Absolutley NOTHING natural in here except for the water and glycerin which, heck, you can find in a ton of other gels. I only used it twice and just had to chuck it; I wouldn’t even let my SO try to use it up it was that horrendous. Since then, my hair has been stringy and frizzy so I’ve been toying with some of my natural product samples from kathymack in hopes of returning my hair to its normal state.

In line with the title of my post, I’m pretty much copying and pasting product combinations and results from my Outlook notes albeit with a little bit of spackle to hide the bare bones of it all.
